The Ramblers won the International Gold Medal in Seattle in 1983 after several years of competing. In 1975, Stage Door Four baritone Dennis Malone's company transferred him to California although he wanted to continue singing in a Dallas quartet . That left two other members of the disbanded Stage Door Four, tenor Keith Houts, and super lead, Jim Law looking for a bass. One night in late 1975, 6'5" Earl Hagn appeared at a Vocal Majority rehearsal. With very obvious 6'3' bass vocal chords, Earl was approached by many three man quartets. As luck would have it, Earl agreed to audition for a quartet whose bari was in California and might not return. Lead Jim Law decided to retire from his law practice and moved to New Mexico and they had to step down from the competition. Losing a lead singer would kill almost any quartet, but not the Ramblers. This was just about the time the Dealer's Choice were breaking up and lead Bill Thornton (also the Rambler's coach) was looking for another quartet. Mter passing the audition, they picked up where they left off Their championship year included several special events. In addition to attending the Int'l Mid-Winter convention (that year in Hawaii - nice timing, guys) they also toured Europe. In 1984 they made an appearance on the Phil Donahue Show.

Sidewinders

Saturday, June 27, 1964, undoubtedly was the happiest day in the history of the Riverside, CA chapter. On that day the Riverside Citrus Belters chorus won 5th place bronze medals in its first International competition. And four chapter leaders, a group known as the Sidewinders, became the new International quartet champions. Some championship quartets, by necessity or by choice, have not always been strong members of the chapters to which they belonged. Not the Sidewinders. Tenor Jerry Fairchild had long been chorus director. Lead Joe Daniels had been president and was about to be named to that post again. Bass Jay Wright was three-term secretary. Bari Gene Boyd was past membership vice president, show chairman, and perennial committee member.

Silk City

Silk City is one of Manhattan's finest acappella vocal groups specializing in the group harmony sound of the 50's and early 60's. This dynamic doo-wop group has performed throughout the metropolitan area at a variety of nightclubs, restaurants, oldies shows, and every type of private, public, and corporate function. Not only have the New York Times, New York Newsday, the Bergen Record, the Star-Ledger, and the Hartford Courant written about this exciting group, but Silk City has also been the subject of a television news segment on WABC-TV. Of special note, this group has had the distinct honor of being the first acappella doo-wop group to perform in the Grand Ballroom of the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel. And back some twenty-plus years ago, when the group was first establishing itself in the group harmony scene, SILK CITY also had the honor of being presented with the Gus Gossert Memorial Award after being voted the best new vocal group by the members of the United in Group Harmony Association (U.G.H.A.), the largest organization of doo-wop music enthusiasts in the country.

Singers Unlimited

The Singers Unlimited were born out of a strange combination of stark commercialism and rare innovation that somehow yielded some pretty high art. Gene Puerling was the vocal arranger as well as a singer with The Hi-Lo's, and later moved into jingle singing and arranging in Chicago. Don Shelton had been a Hi-Lo as well, and joined Puerling in the commercial field. Along the way they joined with Len Dresslar (the voice of the Jolly Green Giant) and vocalist/voiceover artist Bonnie Herman. This led to the formation in 1967 of a ready-to-go jingle-singing quartet. Then Puerling began experimenting with the new technology of multi-track recording, and the Singers expanded their four voices into eight, twelve, sixteen, and later into practically a hundred or more! The Singers produced around 15 LP's in the period between 1971 and 1981.

Singing Men

The motto for the Singing Men is "A Ministry That Makes A Difference". Our sincerest desire is to utilize the gift of music received from God to make a difference in our own lives as well as the lives of those with whom we share our ministry.

In 1977, a quartet was formed at then Oakwood College in Huntsville, Alabama comprised of Leroy Hampton, Elverton Mapp, Clinton Williams, and Douglas Bell. Providing music for the weekly Bible radio program "Your Bible Speaks", hosted by Dr. Elder Richard Tottress, they became known as "The Your Bible Speaks Men of Music".

Word of the quartet spread quickly and, within a year, other men joined and the quartet eventually grew into a male chorus. As the notoriety of the male chorus expanded, their performances became much sought after events.

Singing Sergeants

The Singing Sergeants, the official chorus of the United States Air Force, is one of the world's most versatile and traveled choral organizations. It is also one of a select few singing groups internationally recognized for its commitment to excellence in vocal performance. Originally formed in 1945 from within the ranks of The United States Air Force Band, the chorus is now composed entirely of professional vocalists who have come from leading colleges, universities and music conservatories throughout the world; and who are all sergeants in the United States Air Force. Available positions are filled by audition only and are reserved for those singers who demonstrate the finest qualities of musicianship and vocal production..

The Singing Sergeants have appeared before every chief executive of the United States since President Truman, as well as with the New York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia, Cleveland, Houston and National Symphony Orchestras, and both the Boston and Cincinnati Pops. The group has performed at White House, State Department, Supreme Court, Congressional, Department of Defense and high-level civilian functions. The Singing Sergeants have performed at the New York World's Fair, in Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts..

Singing Statesmen

The Singing Statesmen is an all male choral ensemble from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Started in 1967 by Morris Hayes, the Statesmen is comprised of 57 students from various academic backgrounds and is currently under the direction of Dr. Gary R. Schwartzhoff. Because The Singing Statesmen promise to deliver songs with utmost musicality, they enjoy a healthy attendance at each concert they perform. Annually, the Statesmen participate in the Homecoming Varsity Show, and the Viennese Ball. As the years progress, the choir continues to release new albums while offering a new variety of music at each performance.

Sistrum

Sistrum, Lansing Women's Chorus, is a women's community chorus that has been making music for over 25 years. Founded on ideas of social justice, feminism, and creating beautiful music for both ourselves and our community, Sistrum can be found singing at many area events and celebrations as well as traveling across the US to choral events and conferences. Winner of a special Joy of Music citation from The American Prize for artistic vision and infectious performances, Dancing Naked at the Edge of Dawn is Sistrum's second CD and presents their first commissioned piece of music. Our name comes from a musical instrument, a rattle used in ancient Egypt. It was kept in constant motion as a symbol of Isis, the sacred and ever-changing Life Force. Likewise, we draw upon the words, music, and energy of women composers, arrangers and poets to inspire, empower, and entertain our audiences.

Sixth Wave

January 2005 brought on a season of change for us, as Amy Fogerson left the group and was replaced by Jennifer Barnes. Shortly thereafter, both Gerald White and Gary Rosen also made the decision to leave the group to pursue other ventures, which created openings filled by tenor Greg Whipple and baritone Greg Jasperse. This 50% new group is now eagerly working towards the goal of being a powerful and cohesive musical unit, adding exciting new repertoire while maintaining the spirit and integrity for which Sixth Wave has always been known. Slammin All Body Band

Slammin All Body Band is a powerhouse sextet from Oakland, CA, performing a fresh mix of a cappella singing, beatboxing and body music. Deeply rooted in Jazz, Funk, R&B and World Music grooves, this ferociously talented ensemble creates soulful sounds infused with infectious harmonies and lightening-fast improvisations, percussively punctuated by beatboxing and body music -- the kinetic component that sets SLAMMIN apart and on the cutting edge of a cappella performance.

Slavyanka

Slavyanka is a men's a cappella chorus based in San Francisco, California, and made up of amateur musicians from varied professions, including computer programmers, scientists, lawyers, and businessmen. The musical demands placed on the Chorus are quite high both because of technical content of the music and the nearly four octave range often required to sing it. We perform most of our music in Russian, though most of us do not speak Russian. Our chorus consists of 25 singers united by a common interest in the choral music of the peoples of Russia and Eastern Europe. Over the years we have compiled an enviable record of achievement.

So Rare!

So Rare is an award-winning women's a cappella quartet singing smooth sounds and intricate harmonies. No vocal percussion here, just perfectly blended chords in a varied repertoire including swing, jazz, modern and contemporary. Brought together by their love of close harmony, these talented ladies have been entertaining audiences for six years. SoRare! has been 1st runner up in the Boston Area Harmony Sweepstakes Competition for 1998, 1999, and 2000 before becoming this year's winners. They are a five-time medalist quartet in the North Atlantic Regional Quartet Competition of Sweet Adelines International. They have performed extensively throughout New England including, Worcester's 1st Night Celebrations, Bridgewater's 4th of July featured entertainers and performer of the National Anthem, Stellar A Cappella, A Cappella Gold, opening night for the Boston Celtics where they performed for Bill Russell, several area shows, clubs and private parties.
